Buchanan Renewables Power Group ("BRP")
BRP will initially establish a 35-megawatt power plant to supply electricity to Monrovia. The plant will be fuelled with woodchips from non-producing rubber trees provided by BRF. It will be located near Kakata, approximately 50 kilometers from Monrovia.
BRP is also developing a small biomass unit that can be deployed in rural towns and villages and will supply electricity to the villagers on a microgrid.
The diagram below clearly shows that economic development and the availability and use of abundant and inexpensive electricity are very strongly correlated. Consequently, it is imperative that developing countries, and in particular Liberia/Monrovia, develop significantly more electricity generation, transmission and distribution facilities, than they presently have, to support their economic development.
Electricity generation technology in the world is likely to be based mainly on coal and cleaner coal technologies in the short and medium terms. However, the environmental effects (particularly the Greenhouse gas/CO2 effects) of burning even a modest percentage of the available coal could be disastrous to the world's natural environment. Consequently, it is vital that other more environmentally friendly resources for electricity generation be found and/or further developed - this is the mission of Buchanan Renewables Power.
